About this Project

The landlocked African nation of Niger is the poorest country in the world according to the United Nations. It has the third fastest growing population in the world, is more than 97% Muslim, and is suffering from a debilitating famine. 65% of the population of 14 million is under the age of 18. It is situated in the Sahel of Africa, which is the very battle line of conflict between Christianity and Islam.

Highlands has a strategic opportunity to work with several organizations that are planting churches throughout the nation. There are 12 church plants in various stages of development and an additional 10 churches currently in the planting stage. This trip is geared toward supporting the existing plants and pre-evangelism for those about to be planted. Our goal is to do medical clinics, sports clinics, as well as touching other felts needs such as food distribution in those areas. We will also be working with children and training churches leaders in several regions.

What are the accommodations? Our team will stay in a guest house.

What will we eat? We'll eat traditional North African cuisine including porridge, rice, and vegetable dishes. Out of respect for our hosts, we will eat everything that is put before us.

What should I wear? Because Niger is 97% Muslim, dress is very conservative. Please bring clothes that are modest and neat. For women, long skirts that go past the knee are required. Nice shirts and blouses must cover shoulders. For men, long pants/trousers must be worn when doing ministry.
