External Communications Coordinator

At Highlands, we are devoted to seeing our members and attendees connected in a life-giving relationship with Jesus and planted and thriving in the local church. Our hope is that everyone experiences a fresh, enjoyable connection to God and a community of people.

The purpose of the External Communication Coordinator is to lead the execution and coordination of all outward-facing communications to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment with the organization’s mission, values, and voice. This role exists to strengthen how the organization communicates externally through strategic messaging, strong writing, and coordinated campaign execution across platforms.


Experience and Knowledge Required

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, content development, or brand messaging
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Strong understanding of brand voice and messaging strategy
• Familiarity with email platforms, web content management systems, and digital communication tools
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and translate information into clear messaging

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Write, edit, and proofread external messaging including emails, announcements, campaign copy, web content, and promotional materials
• Ensure consistency in tone, voice, and messaging across all public-facing platforms
• Coordinate communication to align with campaigns, events, and organizational initiatives
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and deadline integrity
• Collaborate with internal teams to gather information and translate strategy into clear external communication
• Maintain and manage editorial calendars for outward-facing communication
• Support launch communication for major initiatives and campus-wide announcements
