Front-end Web Developer

This Front-end Web Developer must have the ability to design and develop cross browser/OS compatible web sites at a fast pace while being able to manage and update multiple projects. This position is responsible for maintaining and further developing the core site template and advanced GUI solutions. The Front-end Developer will work closely with the Technologies Director and other senior technical staff to come up with creative solutions to complex web challenges.

The Front-end Developer is responsible for developing and maintaining websites for Church of the Highlands. In addition to the above, key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee content publishing on primary and secondary web experiences.
  • Aid in the creative process of designing user interfaces and user experiences.
  • Directly create and control content within specific areas of our web properties.
  • Create content containers in our CMS, ExpressionEngine, to support content creators and various departments on our team.
  • Manage routine duties, such as the weekly media publishing routine.

Experience, Skills and Education

Required

  • Experience in creating web properties from scratch using standards‐compliant HTML and CSS.
  • Experience in JavaScript and frameworks, especially jQuery.
  • Experience in developing websites using ExpressionEngine or a similar modern content management system, like Drupal.
  • Understanding of basic design principles, such as grid balance, the rule of thirds, color relation and typography.
  • Four‐year college degree or equivalent work experience.

Beneficial

  • Knowledge of HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Skill in PHP or another web‐centric programming language, like Ruby.
  • Skill in CodeIgniter or another modern development framework, like Rails.
  • Creative ability to artistically craft the entire user experience, from wireframe to final concept design to implementation on the front‐end.

The baseline experience required to fill this position is healthy knowledge of the World Wide Web and related Internet technologies, like social networks and web browsers. A candidate for Front-end Developer has a great grasp on web user interaction and utilizes various methods and tools to increase work productivity.

In addition to experience on the web, the person in this position is skilled at general communications, public affairs and product support. They are organized, diligent and highly productive.
